It's Time For Burnaby To Start Leading The Way - June 2022

June 2022

Mike Hillman, Burnaby City Councillor

In less than 110 days, the people of Burnaby will be going to the polls to vote for their Mayor, eight Councillors, and seven School Board trustees.

For the first time in 34 years, voters will have the opportunity to choose a different path than the one we've followed since 1988. With an independent Mayor, and the most politically diverse council in decades, the people of Burnaby have a chance to start leading the way in Metro Vancouver.

One Burnaby is a new civic electors' association with a progressive vision for our city, and we will work hard to earn your vote in October.

One Burnaby is dedicated to bringing a diversity of voices, life experiences, and insights to our Council chambers. We'll be nominating six candidates from across the city, some of whom the people of Burnaby will know, and some who are entirely new to politics and bring new voices and perspectives.

One Burnaby will celebrate and build on the changes we all voted for in 2018 as we elected a new Mayor in Mike Hurley and started our journey on a new path. One Burnaby will support our mayor as we bring new and exciting suggestions forward that will insure Burnaby is leading the way in our region.

One Burnaby will build on my experiences as a new Councillor elected just 12 months ago. I campaigned to elect Mike Hurley as our next Mayor and stood to join him in the Council Chamber.

One Burnaby is committed to leading the way by building a stronger and more inclusive Burnaby that brings families together and builds neighbourhoods that become unique villages. We will support growth where families can put down roots and invest in their communities, away from our thriving town centres.

One Burnaby will provide a voice for the full story of our community and in doing so celebrate our diversity on all fronts - in people of all ages, in technology and business, and in our arts and culture as we proudly move forward, together.

One Burnaby will champion community safety and cleanliness so that while our communities grow, the people of Burnaby can continue to enjoy our beautiful parks, public amenities, and community centres safely.

One Burnaby will embrace change. We will be an elector organization that encourages renewal through recruiting new candidates and engaging new voters. We will embrace community engagement in a way that seeks involvement, and awareness and gives strength to the needs residents have for a responsive and accountable city.

As we launch One Burnaby, we will build on the achievements of our candidates and engage our residents as we work together to realize the growing potential of our community.

We look forward to working with the people of Burnaby to chart a course for our city. And on October 15th, we'll work to make sure that One Burnaby is LEADING THE WAY

The City of Burnaby is located on the ancestral and unceded territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples. One Burnaby is grateful for the opportunity to engage in the democratic process on these territories.
